One door closes, another one opens.

February 19th, 2009

Creativity can come in a variety of ways. My friends Drury Bynum and Jamie Campbell are two of the most inventive people that I know. Drury created WorkerBee Creative where he specializes in Online Video Marketing. We worked with Dru on the Tilt Video (check it out). Jamie co-owns Shine Collective, a trendy little boutique in a small neighborhood of Baltimore, called Hampden.

Drury and Jamie are renovating their home and decided to make some swift and easy improvements. For their bedroom Dru created a headboard for their bed from a bright blue door that was kept in their basement. With a little sanding, Dru repurposed the door creating a unique piece that adds to the bedroom décor. Thanks Dru and Jamie for sharing your creative ideas!

The Oscars are coming! Many people plan to have Oscar viewing parties, but did you ever consider having an Oscar gown making party? Invite your friends over that night and have them bring over their old tee’s and clothes. Have your sewing machine ready to make awesome recycled gowns for each of you to wear to your next ritzy function. It’s green, it’s unique, and it’s bound to make great conversation.

Shine Collective

February 17th, 2009

At Jes-M we’re all about reusing what we already have and creating something totally unique. Our friends at Shine Collective, a boutique “dedicated to independent fashion, art, and design culture in Baltimore,” promote designers who recycle clothing and jewelry to make new creations. This spring they will be featuring Vancouver based handbag designer Ashley Watson. Watson creates one-of-a-kind handbags, wallets and belts made from recycled leather jackets purchased from charity thrift stores. They are absolutely amazing! Be sure to go check them out!

Yes We Can

February 13th, 2009

This year for February 14th we’ve created the “YES WE CAN Be Valentines” valentine. The purpose behind this is not only to bring a little smile to your face, but to make you realize that there are things you can do to create change. It’s as simple as reading this blog and educating yourself on how to be more conscious of your environment, your loved ones, and yourself.

In addition to our limited edition valentine, we’ve created some simple Jes-M valentines. All are printed on recycled paper and packaged together in a neat little bundle. We’ve sent them out in hopes to spread the word about Jes-M and promote that we all can make a difference.

Simple Relaxation Solutions

February 11th, 2009

Life is tough. People are too wrapped with work and school that they forget to take a minute for themselves. This month, why not slow down and realize that you can take a few minutes to yourself and relax.

Take a hot bath. Give yourself a spa treatment. And instead of going out and spending all that money, why not use what you already have in the comforts of your own home! Here are some great recipes for health and beauty you can make and use without going out of the house:

Pomegranate Age Defier
Just one pomegranate seed will give you enough oil to moisturize and revitalize your skin. Simply apply and massage into your skin to reduce wrinkles and improve elasticity. How many seeds are in a pomegranate? You’ll have plenty in supply.

Apple Face Mask
5 oz. apples
4 tsp. lemon juice
2 tsp. almond oil
2 tsp. wheat-germ oil
1/3 oz. egg white

Using blender, mix all ingredients. Apply to your face, then sit down and relax for 15 minutes while it works its magic. Remove with water. Keep in an airtight container. Use once a week.

Milk and Honey Bath Recipe
1/2 cup runny honey
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon essential oils (for fragrance)

Mix all ingredients. Pour into hot bath and enjoy!

Ballpark Cuff Links

February 10th, 2009

If you are a guy who loves baseball (or if your man is a ballpark fanatic), then you are going to flip over these awesome authentic stadium cuff links. Crafted from salvaged seats from America’s most famous baseball stadiums, Red Envelope has cuff links from Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, and Yankee, Shea, Tiger, Cornisky, Busch, RFK and Dodger Stadiums. Each piece is unique, due to the nature of the wood, and is engraved with the stadium name on the back.

Sexy Beast

February 9th, 2009

I know it’s cold outside but remember your pooch needs some lovin too. Give your dog some with Sexy Beast, a luxury brand unisex perfume designed specifically for dogs to keep your best friend smelling and feeling good.

If you really love your pup, a limited edition is available for Valentine’s Day. Engraved with your dogs name and covered in Swarovski crystal, this intense version will give your dog the bling that he/she deserves.

Green Up Your Car

February 5th, 2009

The Washington Auto Show is in town February 4th-8th. Thousands of people will be lining up to see the latest and greatest in automotive achievements.

Though many people may be interested in fast and sleek, the cars that people may be most interested in this year are the ones without the high profiles.

As we look to the future, many people are anticipating what there is in store for ‘green’ cars. The green team of cars at the show this year are:

the Fisker Karma, featuring an innovative Q-Drive plug-in hybrid powertrain,

Honda FCX Clarity, a hydrogen model sedan,

MINI E, a zero emissions electric version of the Mini Cooper,

Mitsubishi i-miEV, a battery electric car for urban missions,

and Chevrolet Volt, a zero emission battery powered (most of the time) car.

This year, the Chevy Volt is taking home the prize of 2009 Green Car Vision Award. However, all of these cars will be key to the future of the automotive industry. So go check it out!
